Can I change my Medicare plan?

Start with the coverage you want to change.

1 Medicare Advantage or Part D?

October 15–December 7: Join, switch, or drop a plan if eligible. Changes generally start January 1.

2 Already in Medicare Advantage?

January 1–March 31: Make one change to another Advantage plan, or return to Original Medicare and join a drug plan.

3 A move or loss of coverage?

A Special Enrollment Period may apply. The event, deadline, and allowed changes matter.

4 New to Medicare—or considering Medigap?

First-time enrollment and Medigap have separate rules. Check your rights before leaving a plan.

Before you switch

Check doctors, prescriptions, total costs, and the new start date. Confirm Medigap availability if you want it.
