The short answer
A benefit label does not tell you everything a plan pays for. Check covered services, providers, frequency limits and your share of the cost.
Dental care
Original Medicare generally does not cover routine dental care. Certain dental services closely linked to the success of covered medical treatment may qualify. Ask about the specific procedure and its medical circumstances.
Vision and hearing
Routine eye exams for glasses and hearing aids are generally not covered by Original Medicare. Some medically necessary eye services and diagnostic hearing exams can be covered. The purpose of the visit matters.
Medicare Advantage extras
Some plans include additional dental, vision or hearing benefits. Look beyond an advertised allowance: check eligible services, network requirements, authorization, frequency and whether the amount is annual or uses another period.
A question worth asking
Does an allowance mean any purchase will be reimbursed?
No. Benefits can restrict what you buy, where you receive care and when you can use the allowance. Verify the plan’s Evidence of Coverage before relying on it.
